Tate Campbell’s 93rd minute goal was the archetypal smash and grab raid that saw Hereford depart with all three points. A lightning break saw substitute Chay Tilt play in Campbell who finished neatly as The Bulls weathered the pressure from the home side and appeared to have earned a hard fought draw.
The sides went in level at the break, Hereford having gone ahead on 40 minutes with their first attack of the game. The Brackley defence was at fault as Yusifu Ceesay’s shot was not cleared allowing Alex Babos to bundle the ball into the goal. Brackley had dominated the first half but hit back levelling in added time as Hereford could not clear from a corner and Matt Lowe applied the final touch for his second goal of the season.
The second half continued to be played in Hereford’s half but with Brackley unable to find the net. Morgan Roberts’ fine effort was turned around the post by Aaron Chapman, Lowe’s cross was headed off the line, Danny Newton’s header was inches away and Connor Hall’s goal-bound shot was deflected away.
For Hereford Ahkeem Rose shot wastefully wide from a free-kick and Montel Gibson was through on goal bringing a fine save from Jonny Maxted before Campbell struck in added time.
The final chance fell to Saints as Scott Pollock fired over when well placed before the referee whistled for the end.
“Obviously I am really disappointed with the result,” Gavin Cowan said. “But in terms of performance, the attitude and application was excellent but we didn’t take those big moments. It’s difficult to criticise the lads after such a huge effort but it’s about what happens in both boxes so credit to Hereford who were resolute and hung in there to get the win.”
