Champions-elect Tamworth came to claim the single point needed to confirm the title but it was Brackley supporters celebrating as the home team inflicted The Lambs’ biggest defeat of the season.

“The players did everything we asked of them and stuck to the process,” Gavin Cowan said. “All credit to the players who stuck to the game strategy and we came out as convincing winners.”

Morgan Roberts put Saints ahead inside two minutes finishing neatly after the Tamworth defence failed to clear, Roberts netting his eighth goal since New Year.

George Carline doubled the lead on 12 minutes as keeper Jas Singh could only paw away Danny Newton’s header from Riccardo Calder’s fine cross leaving Carline on hand to finish smartly from close range, the defender’s third goal in three games.

Saints played with verve and passion to the delight of the big Easter Monday crowd, Singh saving with his legs from Connor Hall and Roberts somehow failing to find the net after a superb move that carved the Tamworth defence open. Newton fired close going into the break in added time as the score-line failed to reflect Saints’ superiority.

Zak Lilly added a third on 50 minutes heading past Singh direct from Tommy O’Sullivan’s corner kick.

Tamworth rarely threatened to hit back and only two superb saves by Singh from Roberts and then Newton prevented further goals. Ex-Saint Jordan Culllinane-Liburd was sent off late on for a second yellow card on a day to forget for the soon to be anointed champions.

“We were very much on the front foot today and knew what was in front of us,” Cowan added. “Credit to Tamworth and what they have achieved but we are focused on our agenda. We have to recover well now and prepare for our next game.”
