Brackley Town 2-0 Gloucester City Vanarama National League North - 14 November 2023

Brackley were back to winning ways with a Tuesday night victory over Gloucester City, a goal in each half settling the match.

“Two goals and a clean sheet are pleasing,” Gavin Cowan said. “We had the luxury of moving a few players around given the number of fixtures through November so we made a few changes. I am really pleased scoring two goals tonight from open play. We had numerous other chances also. It has been disappointing to concede some of the goals we have so it is nice to get the clean sheet.”

Danny Newton bundled in Riccardo’s fine cross for the opening goal on 16 minutes, the striker’s 10th league goal of the season. Further chances were spurned in a one-sided first half before the visitors came out strongly after the interval and grew into the game.

Danny Lewis saved well low to his left before Shep Murombedzi doubled the score and sealed the win in the 86th minute. Alfie Bates set up Murombedzi for a shot from the edge of the penalty area and it was struck low and hard into the bottom corner. Jimmy Armson could not make more of a fine late chance as Saints recorded a first win in five games to move into 9th place.
