Saints returned home with three valuable points after a convincing win in Bank Holiday sunshine.
“It was a dominant and controlled performance,” Gavin Cowan said. “It’s a great score-line and really good performance today but there is a lot more to come again from this group.”
Tyler Lyttle opened the scoring on 23 minutes with an emphatic finish after a corner was not cleared and, while Sports finished the half strongly, Danny Lewis remained untroubled.
A more open second half brought two important saves from Peter Crook from Lyttle before Zak Lilly swept the ball past Crook to double the lead just before the hour mark after strong work by Jimmy Armson to keep the ball alive. Brackley had to withstand a period of pressure as Peterborough pressed winning a succession of corner kicks but George Carline added a third goal on 71 minutes to finish the game as a contest, heading in unmarked from Lyttle’s corner kick.
Substitute Dom McHale was twice foiled at the last as it was the visitors the more likely to add to the score-line.
“This group is evolving, ever-improving and it was great for me to see my players getting on at each other at 3-0 up in the latter stages wanting to keep driving standards,” Cowan said. “It’s that mentality we are looking for.”
