Brackley’s winless run extended to seven games as relegated-threatened Farsley Celtic held out to secure a vital win. Saints’ night was further marred by Shep Murombedzi’s late sending off for a second yellow card.
Farsley started brightly, Kian Scales’ 30 yard effort hitting the cross-bar in only the first minute and bringing two good saves from Danny Lewis as the home side took the game to the visitors and went ahead through Theo Williams’ 11th minute close range finish. Murombedzi equalised on the stroke of half-time, his shot finding the net through a crowd of players.
Frank Mulhern’s free-kick was hit fiercely to restore Celtic’s lead on 59 minutes before Max Dearnley saved well from Cosmas Matwasa and substitute Levi Amantchi twice went close. However, despite late pressure Saints could not find the break-through goal to level and take something from the game falling to successive defeats.
“I can’t fault the players for effort and commitment,” Roger Johnson said. “We created plenty of chances in both halves but, as has been the story all season, we are just missing the end product. We are in a spell when things are not going for us. Thanks to the supporters who travelled on a Tuesday night. We go again on Friday and need our fans to turn out in numbers and get behind us.”
