Saints deservedly won this midweek game with a goal in each half and a sturdy defensive
performance that buckled just once and in the very final minutes. Callum Stead and Cosmos
provided two fine goals to top off a strong all-round team performance.
“It is an excellent result,” Kevin Wilkin said. “All the boys put in a shift, we scored two terrific goals
and at good times. The front four worked well together and were a constant threat all night and we
limited Hereford’s threat for a deserved three points.”
An even first half saw Danny Lewis pull off a sharp save from Amadi-Holloway after good work by
Miles Storey before Brackley went ahead as George Carline and Wes York combined with Cosmos for
Stead to finish powerfully from close range for his second goal of the season.
The lead was extended in the first minute after the break as Carline’s long throw was met by Gaz
Dean, Twariq Yusuf’s shot was blocked but Cosmos’ follow-up effort was drilled into the bottom
corner. A double chance was thwarted on the hour and Shep Murombedzi’s in-swinging corner right
under the crossbar was eventually cleared while for the visitor's Zak Lilly’s shot was well saved by
Lewis before Jack Evans finished neatly in added time to set up a nervy final few minutes.
“Hereford really had the one moment in the second half and conceding there had you thinking they
could still get a point from the game so credit to Hereford for keeping going,” Wilkin added. “But
the lads stayed concentrated and we deserved the win.”
