PREVIEW
Sitting at the foot of the National League, Morecambe have been nothing but disappointing for the neutral in the National League, playing free flowing, attacking football. Despite sitting in 23rd, Ashvir Johal’s side could well cause an upset on Tuesday night. With 10 goals in their last 5 games, Morecambe know where the net is.
Despite taking the lead twice on Saturday, The Shrimps fell to a 4-2 defeat away to York. Brackley would also lose on the weekend, with an unlucky defeat at Altrincham with Connor Hall’s consolation being too little too late for the Saints.
Our midweek meeting in Lancashire will be the first ever professional meeting between the two sides.
Key Players:
In the middle of the park is former Arsenal wonderkid Miguel Azeez, who possesses all the quality and flair expected from a Premier League Academy graduate. Azeez has played the full 90 in all but two games for the Shrimps since joining late in the summer transfer window.
On loan from QPR is Emmerson Sutton, who played a crucial role in Morecambe’s seven goal thriller against Wealdstone earlier in the season. Youngster Sutton is a tricky, technical winger who has a high ceiling expected of him from his Parent club. After winning the Premier League Cup with QPR and starring in their FA Youth Cup Campaign’s.
The Man in Charge:
It’s Ashvir Johal’s maiden campaign as a manager, previously assistant to Kolo Toure at Wigan, Ashvir has become the youngest manager in professional football, as well as the first Sikh manager to lead a professional club in England. He made headlines in Lancashire after beating Altrincham on his debut, caused by a 98th minute winner, marking Morecambe’s escape from Administration a success.
As previously mentioned, Ashvir’s style of play is free flowing, attacking football. Looking to play out from the back, it hasn’t been all sunshine and rainbows during his tenure at Morecambe. Tuesday night's hosts have conceded 48 goals this season, which will be a glimmer of hope for Gavin Cowan's men.
