NEXT UP: BRACKLEY TOWN v SCUNTHORPE UNITED - VANARAMA NATIONAL LEAGUE NORTH

Chris Tymon5 Aug 2024 - 08:00

League football returns to Brackley this Saturday with the visit of Scunthorpe United

On Saturday we welcome Scunthorpe United to St James Park for the opening game of the new season (Kick-off 3pm).

Until last season the two sides had never met. That was remedied last time out on no fewer than four occasions – home and away league fixtures and an FA Cup tie with replay. Saints won two of these games with one draw.

The Iron have a long history of league football. As recently as 2010-11 playing in the Championship and in EFL 1 in 2018-19 before successive relegations and a first season in National League North when they finished second as Saints ended up third.

Former player and first team coach Andy Butler took up the reins and leads his team into a second season at Step 2.
Gavin Cowan’s side missed out on play-off promotion last season by the narrowest of margins as Boston United advanced from the promotion play-off final. Cowan retains the core of that team with additions in the shape of Shane Byrne, Scott Pollock, Matt Lowe and goalkeeper Jonny Maxted.

Summer work from the maintenance team has left St James Park looking fantastic and ready to kick off a new season. Attendances last season continued to grow and with an exciting team and a highly competitive league we look forward to welcoming supporters back for the new campaign.

This will be a segregated game and tickets are on sale to home and away supporters now.
