NEXT UP: BRACKLEY TOWN v SCUNTHORPE UNITED - VANARAMA NATIONAL LEAGUE NORTH

Chris Tymon10 Jan 2024 - 22:11

Scunthorpe United are the visitors to St James Park on Saturday for another National League North fixture.

After an indifferent spell of form, Gavin Cowan’s side recorded back-to-back wins over near neighbours Banbury Town in a Boxing Day/ New Year’s Day doubleheader. Danny Newton got the winner at Banbury on 26 December and new signing Connor Hall scored a hat-trick in his first outing in a Saints shirt on Monday as his new side won 3-1 at St James Park. This was followed up with last Saturday’s win at Spennymoor Town, Morgan Roberts the goal scorer in a 1-0 win.

This will be only the fourth ever meeting of the two sides and all four encounters have come this season. Scunthorpe won 1-0 in the league in early October while Saints came out on top in the FA Cup, drawing at Glanford Park before winning 3-1 in a thrilling replay under the lights on a memorable cup night, Tyler Lyttle and Danny Newton among the scorers – Newton’s spectacular effort the goal of the round.

Relegated from the National League last season The Iron are currently enjoying a successful season sitting second in the National League North table behind leaders Tamworth. Jimmy Dean’s side are unbeaten in eight games with six wins and two draws in that fine run of form. Away from Glanford Park they have beaten Farsley Celtic last time out, drew with Buxton and won at Hereford following a rare defeat losing at King’s Lynn Town in mid-November.
