NEXT UP: BRACKLEY TOWN V LEAMINGTON - BOXING DAY - VANARAMA NATIONAL LEAGUE NORTH

The Saints welcome Leamington to St James Park this Boxing Day

Brackley Town versus Leamington is as close to a local derby as it gets this season with Leamington the Boxing Day visitors to St James Park.

The Brakes took a single season break from Step 2 gaining immediate promotion back from the Southern League last season finishing third and winning a play-off final. This season back in National League North Paul Holleran’s side are 17th on 26 points following Saturday’s fine 4-1 home win against league leaders Curzon Ashton.
Going into that game form had been poor with six successive defeats and just a single away win of the season, that coming at Farsley Celtic in September, a game played at Alfreton’s ground.
Brackley and Leamington have met many times in the Southern League and at Step 2. The most recent encounters came in the 2022-23 season with a goal-less December draw at the New Windmill ground and a 2-1 midweek defeat for Roger Johnson’s side at St James Park in March, Levi Amantchi the scorer for Saints, Adam Walker and Liam Cross on the scoresheet for The Brakes.
Recent games have seen a preponderance of draws – eight among the last fourteen matches with two wins for Brackley and four for Leamington.
The sides have never met in the FA Trophy and just once in the FA Cup, that coming in 2010 when Brackley won out in a replay.

Ex-Saints Adam Walker and Theo Streete are regulars in Paul Holleran’s side. Both are remembered at St James Park as part of Kevin Wilkin’s 2018 FA Trophy Wembley winning team.
