A hectic period of games continues after a midweek match at Kidderminster Harriers, Saturday fixture against Curzon Ashton and Bank Holiday encounter at Spennymoor Town. We now have successive home games with the visits of Hereford on Saturday followed by Chorley on Tuesday.
Hereford have started the season well, one of only two teams so far unbeaten. Two wins and three draws has brought a haul of nine points, four on the road, and The Bulls are joint top scorers with Scarborough Athletic on twelve goals. The single clean sheet came in the opening day home win over South Shields.
Gavin Cowan’s side has faced the toughest run of early season games and come through with two wins and a draw. The draw at Spennymoor on Bank Holiday Monday made Saints the first team to take anything away from The Brewery Field since January with The Moors on a run of eleven straight home wins. Ironically Brackley was the last team to win there – a 1-0 victory in January through Morgan Roberts’ goal. On Monday Roberts was again on the scoresheet, as was Danny Newton, both men scoring in successive games having hit the back of the net in the 4-0 win over Curzon Ashton.
Ahead of the game Cowan said, “After a challenging run of games as a part-time team the players really have to work hard and put themselves out in terms of recovery and we’ll train on Thursday and prepare for the visit of Hereford who have started well. The games don’t get any easier. This league is packed with tough games every single week.”
Come along and get behind the boys this Saturday, we need you!
