PREVIEW:
York have got up and running in the National League following a shakey start to the season. The Minstermen are unbeaten in 9 and have scored 27 goals before their visit to St James’ Park. Deploying a 3-at-the-back system, they are solid defensively and ruthless in front of goal

Saturday’s 3pm kick-off will be the first meeting between the two sides since 2022, where York’s 1-0 victory at St James’ Park would send them to the Playoff Final, in which they won 2-0 over Boston United.

York City finished 2nd in the National League last season and now look to go one step further this year, after losing in the playoff semi-final to eventual winners Oldham Athletic. After finishing on 96pts and 13 clear of 3rd, the case of York is one which vividly supports the National League’s #3UP Campaign.

A Sleeping giant in the National League; York, like many, is just waiting patiently for its chance at returning to the Football League.

Key Players:
Leading the line for the visitors is Golden Boot winner Ollie Pearce, who scored 31 times for York in his debut season, he currently leads the golden boot race again, netting 14 times this campaign. He has been nothing but phenomenal since joining York from Worthing last season.

Alongside Pearce is record signing Josh Stones, who also has a remarkable record in the National League. Despite not reaching heights like his fellow strike partner. Following two successful spells at Oldham, Stones earnt a record-breaking move to York in January 2025. Stones has previously faced Brackley when he was just 18, starting for Guiseley in a National League North tie.

The Man in Charge:
Having taken the reigns in August, Stuart Maynard is the new kid on the block in Yorkshire. The former Wealdstone player has had a short but successful career in terms of management. Finding his first success in his return to the Stones as his first managerial role after a successful spell as Interim. Guiding the North-West Londoners to their highest finish in 36 years.

Maynard would then earn himself a move to League Two Notts County, reaching the playoffs but finding himself dismissed after defeat in the semi-final to AFC Wimbledon.
