MATCH PREVIEW
Sitting at the foot of the National League, Morecambe have been nothing but disappointing for the neutral in the National League, playing free flowing, attacking football. Sitting in 22nd, Ashvir Johal’s side beat the Saints in November, but have not found the net since.

Morecambe will play an away fixture at Gateshead in the Izuzu FA Trophy this weekend, prior to their first ever visit to St James Park.

Key Players:
At the back is Albanian youngster Maldini Kacurri, on loan from Arsenal, Kacurri scored his first Shrimps goal against Brackley in November. Despite his defensive strengths, Morecambe have conceded the most goals in the National League. Picking the ball out of the net 52 times.

In the middle of the park is Maestro Jake Cain, who has played the Most minutes for Ashvir Johal this season. Key to Johal’s philosophy, Cain is the spine of the shrimpers, pulling the strings between attack and defence.

The Man in Charge:
It’s Ashvir Johal’s maiden campaign as a manager, previously assistant to Kolo Toure at Wigan, Ashvir has become the youngest manager in professional football, as well as the first Sikh manager to lead a professional club in England. He made headlines in Lancashire after beating Altrincham on his debut, caused by a 98th minute winner, marking Morecambe’s escape from Administration a success.

As previously mentioned, Ashvir’s style of play is free flowing, attacking football. Looking to play out from the back, it hasn’t been all sunshine and rainbows during his tenure at Morecambe. Gavin Cowan will look to find where he can punish them the most.
