Please note that this is NOT a segregated fixture.
The final match of the 2022-23 National League North season pits Saints against fellow play-off hopefuls Alfreton Town at St James Park on Saturday (kick off 3pm).
The sides sit 4th and 5th respectively in the table on the same number points and identical goal difference. They are separated by goals scored where Brackley have the edge.
Eight possible teams could yet pip Saints to a play-off place depending on results on Saturday but a win will seal 4th spot and a home game in the Eliminator match on Wednesday against the team finishing 7th. This is the nail-biting, last-day drama that writes history.
Alfreton won against Blyth Spartans last Saturday as Saints went down at in-form Buxton but The Reds then lost 3-0 at Bradford (PA) on Wednesday to set up this intriguing cliffhanger at SJP.
Shep Murombedzi is available again after suspension and interim boss Gaz Dean has a full squad to select from, bar himself of course ruled out through injury.
Looking ahead to Saturday’s game Dean said, “After the defeat at Buxton the players owe themselves a performance and to give the fans something to get behind. They need to prove how good they are and how fit they are and to make the playoffs. I hope the supporters come out in numbers to get behind us because it is a huge game and we need them right behind us.”
