Will Armitage becomes the club's second new signing of the summer and returns to St James Park following a successful loan spell with Brackley Town during the 2025/26 campaign*.
The 21-year-old centre-back began his career with Cheltenham Town, becoming the club's youngest-ever first-team player at the time of his debut before making the move to Southampton, where he continued his development within the Saints' academy system and Under-21 side.
Armitage has already gained valuable experience across the National League and National League South. During the 2024/25 season, he made 20 appearances for Aldershot Town and played his part in the club's FA Trophy triumph at Wembley Stadium.
Saints supporters will already be familiar with the defender following his loan spell at Brackley Town last season, where his composed performances and defensive qualities quickly made him a popular figure at St James Park.
Following further senior experience with Aldershot Town and Eastbourne Borough, Armitage now returns to Brackley as Andy Whing continues to build his squad ahead of the new campaign.
Speaking after agreeing to join the Saints, Armitage said:
"I had experience of what Brackley is about from last year and I know the club has a lot of ambition and really wants to be as high as it can. I think it's a great place for me to take the next step in my career."
Manager Andy Whing added:
'Will is a fantastic prospect and we’re delighted he’s joined us permanently. He’s had various loan moves including one here where he has gained valuable experience at this level and above. He’s got fantastic attributes that will suit us going forward, very composed on the ball and loves defending. I’m sure Will can go on in his career and we’re very happy that he’s joined us to be able to do that. Welcome Will"
Will Armitage becomes the latest addition to Andy Whing's squad as preparations continue for the 2026/27 season.
*Will Armitage will officially join Brackley Town upon the expiry of his contract with Southampton FC. The transfer remains subject to National League and Football Association approval.
