Coates arrives at St James Park following a promotion-winning campaign with AFC Fylde, where he helped the Coasters secure the National League North title last season.

Born in Stoke-on-Trent, the 24-year-old came through the academy system at his boyhood club Stoke City before gaining senior experience during a loan spell with Irish side Cork City.

Coates went on to spend two seasons with Chester before making the step up to the National League with Boston United. During his time at Boston, he enjoyed a loan spell with Hereford before joining AFC Fylde last summer.

Having played a key role in Fylde's championship-winning season, Coates arrives at Brackley with valuable experience of what it takes to compete at the top end of the National League North.

Manager Andy Whing said:
"Kieran has been on our radar for a while now and we're delighted to have the opportunity to bring him to the football club.
He's had a very good upbringing at Stoke and is very experienced in this division, coming off the back of a promotion with Fylde. Being only 24 though, there's still loads to come from Kieran and I'm really looking forward to working with him.

He's a right-back who's aggressive, on the front foot and loves to get forward, which fits in with what we're trying to achieve."

Speaking after agreeing to join the Saints, Coates said:
"The ambition of the club was a big factor for me. The aim is to go straight back up and, having achieved promotion last season, I'd love to make it back-to-back promotions.

The fans can expect an athletic right-back who likes to get up and down the pitch and contribute at both ends of the field.

I'm really looking forward to getting started and helping the team achieve its goals."

Coates becomes the fifth new addition to Andy Whing's squad as preparations continue for the 2026/27 season.
