The 20-year-old joins the Saints following his departure from Northampton Town, where he progressed through the club's academy after joining at the age of 13.
Born in Kettering, Tomlinson made history as Northampton Town's youngest-ever first-team player when he made his senior debut at just 15 years of age in the EFL Trophy. He later became the club's youngest-ever goalscorer after finding the net against Arsenal Under-21s before signing his first professional contract with the Cobblers.
Last season, Tomlinson gained valuable National League North experience during loan spells with Bedford Town and Leamington, continuing his development at Step 2 level before making the move to St James Park this summer.
A commanding centre-half who is comfortable on the ball and strong in the air, Tomlinson arrives at Brackley as another exciting young addition to Andy Whing's squad.
Manager Andy Whing said:
"We're delighted to welcome Josh to the football club. We've been aware of Josh for a while now and he had a very good loan move in this division, which is important.
He's a centre-half who's very good in one-v-one situations and in the air, and we believe Josh will only get better and improve in our style of play. We're really looking forward to working with him."
Speaking after agreeing to join the Saints, Tomlinson said:
"I've been at Northampton Town since I was 13 and had a few loan spells along the way, so it's great to be here at Brackley. I'm really excited to get going.
After speaking to Andy Whing, it quickly became an easy decision. We had some really good conversations and, from everyone I spoke to about the club, I only heard positive things. I was chomping at the bit to get everything sorted.
The fans can expect someone who loves the physical side of the game, enjoys competing in the air and is comfortable getting on the ball and playing. I'm really looking forward to getting started and helping the team achieve its goals."
Tomlinson becomes the sixth new addition to Andy Whing's squad as preparations continue for the 2026/27 campaign.
The transfer remains subject to National League and Football Association approval.*
