NEW SIGNING | Alex Whittle Joins The Saints

Chris Tymon

Experienced defender arrives at St James Park on a permanent deal from Farnborough.

The 33-year-old left-back arrives at St James Park with extensive experience across the EFL and non-league football, adding valuable experience and versatility to Gareth Dean's squad.

Born in Liverpool, Whittle spent 11 years in Liverpool FC's youth system before continuing his development at the Glenn Hoddle Academy and Nike Academy.

He began his senior professional career with Scottish side Dunfermline Athletic in 2012, spending three seasons north of the border before returning to England with AFC Fylde.

Whittle subsequently represented Southport, York City and Forest Green Rovers, before spells with Warrington Town, Boston United and Gloucester City.

In January 2021, he joined Chesterfield, where he featured regularly in the National League and was part of the Spireites squad that reached the play-offs in consecutive seasons.

A return to York City followed in 2022 before Whittle joined Yeovil Town in the summer of 2023. He played an important role in the Glovers' National League South title-winning campaign in 2023/24 as Yeovil secured promotion back to the National League.

Whittle joined Farnborough in the summer of 2026, bringing his considerable experience to the Hampshire club before now making the permanent move to St James Park.

Primarily a left-back, but also capable of operating on the left side of central defence, Whittle adds experience and versatility to the Saints' defensive options as Gareth Dean looks to strengthen his squad.

Speaking after completing his move to Brackley Town, Alex Whittle said:

“I think I can bring energy, experience and a bit of calmness to the team. There are some really good players here and, with plenty of games still to play, I’m hoping we can push up the table and aim for the play-offs.”

The registration of Alex Whittle is subject to the necessary approval from the National League and The Football Association.

Welcome to Brackley Alex!
