From historic achievements to the challenges ahead, a message of thanks and togetherness from the board.
We are writing to wish you and your family a wonderful Christmas and to wish you a prosperous and happy New Year.
2025 has been a remarkable twelve months at the club both on and off the field of play. While there have been so many highlights over the past year there is only space to mention a few.
After so many seasons of near-misses we made it to the National League. Gavin and the team gave us an incredible season culminating in that never-to-be-forgotten final day and celebrations that went on late into the night. With the first half of our first season at Step 1 now behind us there is a big second half of the campaign to come when we will need the whole club to pull together in backing the players to climb the table.
The autumn months have been marked by the terrific FA Cup run with live televised games against Notts County and Burton Albion. Hosting the 3rd round draw was a fantastic thing for the club also. Participation in the National League Cup saw us through to the quarter-final stage in January and who could forget the visit of Man Utd PL2 in September and the razzamatazz that surrounds that club coming to our door and made all the more memorable by our win! Progress in the FA Trophy continues with the 4th round tie in a few weeks.
Brackley Town Ladies enjoyed an amazing season gaining promotion to regional level football for the first time and winning cup silverware twice over. Life at a higher level is proving a big step up but, as with the men’s team, with everybody’s support the results will start to come.
Our junior section is thriving with boys and girls teams and a great atmosphere around training sessions and matches. It has also been lovely to see so many of our young players helping out at first team games as flag bearers or with the multi-ball system or as mascots. Walking football goes from strength to strength and we are making moves to develop disability football.
Elsewhere around the club the amazing Saints Community Project has marked its tenth anniversary and continues to play a vital part in the life of the town. In September we started our Football Education Programme (FEP) in partnership with Magdalen College School. Students combine study on a new full-time sports course in the Magdalen Sixth Form with football coaching at the club. Recruitment for Cohort 2 is now underway as we look to establish the programme and grow numbers over the coming years.
Improvements to St James Park continue with improved parking, upgraded floodlights, new PA system, new player tunnel and re-located first aid room. The new away fanzone with additional toilets mark a big step forward and the new TV gantry has just been unveiled. Enormous work has gone into the pitch both during pre-season and every day since! The playing surface is responding very well despite the terribly wet weather through November and in recent days.
The Venue has hosted brilliant entertainment events, establishing itself as the premier venue in the town for events, special occasions and for hire. Friday night bingo, among other events, has built a dedicated following. Eyes Down!
Around the club it is very much a case of “Eyes Up” because wherever you look there is growth and energy and commitment and excitement. Never has the profile of the club been so high with first team attendances at record levels and social media interest sky-high.
Finally we want to thank you, our supporters, for being with the club every step of the way. In football there will always be bumps in the road and ups and downs. The club faces some stiff challenges over the coming months on several fronts but when we all stand together we can overcome the greatest challenges.
Supporters are at the heart of the club. To this end we are embarking on a new chapter in developing supporter engagement. We will be appointing a Supporter Engagement Officer to lead this work. You will see an advertisement for this post shortly that we hope will attract plenty of interest. The successful candidate will then work with the club to establish a new, independent Supporter Engagement Group made up of supporters chosen by supporters. The group will meet formally to discuss matters of interest to supporters and to feedback to the board. As the club board we are really excited at this development and see it as a crucial part of the club’s continued growth and development.
These are exciting times at Brackley Town Football Club. Thank you for your commitment and backing. Together we can make 2026 another successful year.
Happy Christmas
