On Saturday 9th May five of our junior girls teams were competing at the Oxford Girls Football League Finals day in League Cup, Plate and Shield finals at Thame United Football Club.

The day showcases girls football for the Oxford Girls League where all of their League, Cup, Plate and Shield finals for all age groups are held throughout the entire day. Brackley Town had five girls teams on the finals day with our U9s, U13s, U16s, U18 Saints & U18 Juniors, the joint most of any club within the Oxfordshire Girls League.

The U9s were up first as they faced Wantage Town. Brackley started the game well and took an early 2-0 lead into half time. Wantage came out stronger in the second half and got a goal back before Brackley regained momentum and eventually found a third goal to seal the win with a 3-1 victory!

The second of our teams in the finals was our U13s that came up against Witney Vikings. A strong start from Brackley saw most of the play in Witneys half with two fantastic goals from Georgie to give Brackley a 2-0 lead before Witney had a strong spell finding the back of the net to make it 2-1 to Brackley at half time. With an even second half Brackley found a third goal late on through Raya to secure the victory for the U13s.

The third final of the day saw our two U18 girls teams go head-to-head against one another. A great display to have two teams at one age group facing off in a final, both teams played superb football throughout with the Saints starting the stronger of the two sides for the first half hour and could’ve had taken the lead. The Juniors, with a bit more experience in the side came out on top controlling the second half to seal the win.

Our U16 Juniors came up against league winners Summertown Dragons in the last final of the day, Brackley dominated the game from start to finish and just before the half hour mark they found the deadlock through Eleanor Wragg who then later doubled the lead in the second half. Summertown got a late goal back which made it for a nervy final few minutes but Brackley managed the game well to hold out and win the game!

A hugely successful day for us as a club on what was and is always a well organised day at the OGFL finals day. Well done to all the players, coaches and parents!
