Farewell to another Saints legend Jimmy Armson

Farewell to another Saints legend Jimmy Armson

Chris Tymon29 Jun 2024 - 18:30

Brackley Town announces the departure of Jimmy Armson.

A fans’ favourite, Jimmy has made the decision to leave the club after 344 appearances and 95 goals.

Jimmy spent eight years at Nuneaton and a season at Solihull Moors before joining his former manager Kevin Wilkin at St James Park for the 2016-17 season. Jimmy will be remembered for his midfield role, scoring that amazing FA Cup hat-trick against Gillingham and as part of Saints’ 2018 Wembley winning side. More than that, James Armson has been a stalwart in the first team and much loved player for eight seasons and part of the folklore of the club.

Gavin Cowan had these words to say about Jimmy “So hard to sum up in words but if I have to I would say Jimmy’s time at Brackley has been nothing short of remarkable and has enhanced everyone’s lives in some way. It’s nearly two decades that I have known him and for as good of a footballer he is, he’s a thousand times that as a person. It’s time to celebrate his 8+ years and build on the work he has been a part of and achieve our goals. It’s certainly won’t be the last we see of him here, I don’t think we’d keep him away!”

Club chairman Francis Oliver said, “Jimmy has been a wonderful player to have at our club over so many seasons. He has scored memorable goals, been a key part of the team for so long and been a big part of the club’s success first under Kevin and now Gavin. Around the club and in the dressing room Jimmy is known as a big personality and somebody with a keen sense of humour and we will miss him around the place.”

Jimmy had this to say "All good things must come to an end and now my time at Brackley is now over.

The past 8 years has created so many memories for me and I’ve loved every minute of my time here (few playoff disappointments aside).

I’d like to thank every single fan for their support and making me feel so loved over the past 8 seasons. I’d also like to thank all of the fantastic players and staff over the last 8 years that have made my time here so much more enjoyable. Further thanks to the amazing staff that work behind the scenes, Jan and Olly, Kim, Fiona and the kitchen staff, Chris and the social media team, stewards, coach drivers and of course Keith.

I’d also like to thank Gav for everything last season, the hard work and attention to detail he shows has made me learn so much. He has created such a strong squad for next season and I wish him Jamie, Gaz and the rest of the boys the best of success and hope we finally get promotion!

I came here as a player and leave as a fan!

Up the Saints!
Jimmy"

Everybody at Brackley Town extends their thanks and best wishes to Jimmy who will be missed, but always welcome back at St James Park.
