A thoroughly entertaining game this and although both teams had their moments Saints were generally in the ascendancy after a tricky first 20 minutes. The foundation was a solid defensive display and as the confidence grew Saints were solid in possession and dangerous on the break.

Brackley Town Saints (0) Longlevens AFC (2)

Brackley Town Saints: Matt Crowther, Dan Middleton, Lewis Gabbidon, Dean March, Ollie Goddard (c), Sam Hartley, Alex Stott, Charlie Kille, Matt Hammond, James Hammond, Lester Davies.

Subs: Ethan Dowse, Harry Brock, Lewis Middleton, Piotr Jacucha.

Saints will play worse than this during the season and pick something up from the game. That they did not take anything from this game was due to an excellent display by Levens keeper, Kane Winman, numerous shots just off target or hitting the woodwork, some sloppy defending and not forgetting some well organised and stout defending from Levens, who once the found themselves ahead in the game made sure they stayed ahead.

I think that most expected a tight local derby between these 2 clubs and so it was, settled by one goal when Matt Hammond’s free kick on 80 minutes breached the Sports wall and allowed Saints to notch their first league victory of the season and to bag all three points.

This was always going to be a difficult tie against opposition from a lower division looking to cause an upset and arriving to find a stunning St James Park pitch to play on. Manager Chris Hurley was forced to shuffle his pack again due to injuries and holidays.
