Never a dull moment with Saints, who bowed out of the Supplementary Cup after losing an intriguing tie on penalties. After a goalfest on Wednesday night Saints were hoping to carry that momentum forward into this match to provide further confidence for an important run of matches to follow.

Brackley Town Saints (7) Holmer Green (0)

SAINTS: Crowther, Gabbidon (Ball) , Middleton (L), Brock, Goddard (Middleton D), Hartley, Stott, Hammond (J) , Knight, Hammond (M) (Dowse), Kille

Subs not used : Davies, March

A much needed and comfortable win for Saints over a young Holmer Green side that conceded early goals and were then up against it as Saints confidence increased measurably as the game progressed.

Saints took the lead on 3 minutes when Matt Hammond pounced on an unfortunate ricochet in the Holmer Green box and clinically shot past Tom Bryant and into the far corner. 2 minutes later Matt Hammond turned provider playing Lewis Gabbidon into the left side of the penalty box and he calmly lifted the ball over the keeper and into the far corner of the goal.

Saints were dominating possession with Holmer Green looking to sit back and defend. On 20 minutes James Hammond broke free in midfield and chipped a clever ball through to Alex Stott who fired into the top corner to extend Saints lead.

Hellenic League – Premier Division

Bishops Cleeve (4) Brackley Town Saints (0)

Saints: Crowther, Gabbidon, Brock, Goddard, March (Kille 54), Hartley (Middleton 68), Davies (Ball 20), Hammond (J), Hammond (M), Stott, Knight

A heavy defeat for Saints against a well drilled Cleeve side that will be right up there in the shake up for honours at the end of the season. As has been the way over recent weeks Saints shot themselves in the foot after a promising opening 30 minutes. In fact the match statistics suggested that Saints enjoyed 54% possession, but Cleeve were well organised and Saints had to work really hard to create chances against a team that gave little away and stuck to their game plan.

Hillier Senior Cup – First Round

Desborough Town (4) Brackley Town Saints (0)

Saints: Crowther, Middleton (L), Wood (Stott 32), March, Brock, Thompson (Brady 59), Davies, Dowse (Hammond J 70), Hammond (M), McConnell, Kille

Sub not used – Goddard, Mickley

An early exit from the Senior Cup this year with a young Saints side comprehensively beaten by a strong and experienced Desborough team. But this was about development for Saints with 6 of the U18 Youth side in the squad and overall a very youthful looking team. Saints made a good start and in the in the early stages they looked the more likely knocking the ball around nicely, confident on the ball and for 40 minutes probably having the upper hand and certainly enjoying the more clear cut chances.
