After last Thursday’s game against Oxford United, Tuesday evening brings fellow League One side MK Dons to St James Park as Kevin Wilkin’s side continues their National League North preparations.
The Dons have been regular pre-season visitors to St James Park in recent years and we can expect another big crowd for the fixture this time around.
Paul Disdale’s side secured promotion last May in an exciting season finale and re-join the EFL League One for the new campaign. They have played two games at their training camp but behind closed doors so Tuesday evening’s short trip to Brackley will be the Dons’ fans first chance to see their team.
MK Dons website predicts Tisdale will play many of his first choice players with opportunities for some younger names coming through. Jordan Moore-Taylor and Billy Cargill are still out through injury but the likes of new signings Hiram Boateng, Regan Poole and Jordan Bowery are likely to be in action together with established Dons’ favourites such as Dean Lewington, Kieran Agard and George Williams.
Saints got among the goals on Saturday against Step 3 side Barwell. Shane Bryne fired in two penalties while Dan Holman got off the mark. Lee Ndlovu and two triallists completed the scoring in a game Saints won comfortably.
“It was a good work-out,” Wilkin said. “We scored some good goals from well worked moves, the triallists applied themselves well and it is pleasing to see a number of players getting on the score-sheet. We know it will be a tough game against MK Dons but that is what we want pre-season. We had a great turn-out from supporters last week so hopefully that will be the case again on Tuesday.”
