For a second successive season St James Park hosts a play-off semi-final on Sunday (kick-off 3pm). Saints take on Spennymoor Town who finished 4th and who beat Bradford (PA) in the eliminator game on Wednesday with a goal 15 minutes from time.
Spennymoor finished 8th last season missing out on a play-off spot to (ironically) Bradford (PA) on goal difference only. Of course, Brackley then beat Park Avenue in the semi-final to go on to meet Harrogate in the final. Moors turned the tables on their visitors on Wednesday and will now contest their first play-off semi-final.
Kevin Wilkin’s side secured a play-off place some games ago and sealed 3rd place on Saturday beating FC United with a late Daniel Nti goal.
“The play-offs are one-off games now, no longer two legs home and away as they once were,” Wilkin said. “They are all on the day. We were there last season and hopefully learnt a little bit from the experience. We know it won’t be easy. They are all closely matched sides and we will need to be at our very best. But if we are then at home we will have a great chance.”
The two sides met in October at SJP, Brackley winning with goals from Jimmy Armson (2), Connor Hall and Daniel Nti. The win moved Saints into 5th place in the league table before four draws from the next five games saw the league position slip to 8th. The return fixture came less than three weeks ago with Spennymoor winning 1-0.
Sunday’s match is pay-on-the-gate, season tickets are NOT valid for play-offs games. We expect a large crowd so arrive early.
