Weekly club update: Sat 27 February
Following the disappointment of the decision to declare the National League North season null and void we had better news this week with the announcement of the government’s “road-map” for easing the restrictions around Covid. Happier times are ahead.
From 29 March we will re-open the artificial grass pitch and see the return of junior football. Junior training and fixtures will start up again and this will be wonderful to see and will mark a big step forward.
The road-map also identifies further possible milestones including for supporters to be back in grounds and from 21 June the real hope that we can open up hospitality and serve pints again in what will be the club’s new events centre.
The re-build of the clubhouse still has a lot of work to be done to bring it to completion but internal walls are up and ceilings are now going in. We will bring a detailed update next Saturday.
The events centre will be the premier place for entertainment for the growing town of Brackley so look out for a series of events coming up throughout the summer providing the progress being made against the Covid virus continues and further easing of lockdown measures continue.
We will shortly be advertising a new post at the club - events centre manager. This will initially be a part-time post but will offer an exciting opportunity for the right person. Look out for the advertisement on the club website and Indeed.
On the first team front, while the season is over, next season is very much in Kevin Wilkin’s sights. There is every hope that the National League North season will begin in August with an extended pre-season given the long lay-off. There is plenty of work going on behind the scenes to make sure that the recent success of the side will continue in 2021-22.
While the signs are good that the vaccination programme is forging ahead and rates are falling, we must all not drop our guard and keep doing the things that are gradually getting on top of the pandemic. Stay together, stay safe.
