Brackley Town  3-0  Gloucester City    26/8/19

Terrific win for impressive Saints

Jimmy Armson hit three goals as Brackley could have hit six, sweeping Gloucester City aside in style on another sweltering afternoon.

“It was a terrific performance from start to finish,” Kevin Wilkin said.  “The way we went about our work in really tough conditions, we took three of our chances, could have scored more but the clean-sheet is vitally important also.  It was a game when most of it came together today with some terrific individual performances and good team cohesion also.  The way everyone has gone about it after a hard game just 48 hours ago is really pleasing.”

Saints were on the front foot from the first minute and never let up.  Shep Murombedzi and Shane Byrne commanded midfield with Lee Ndlovu and Armson rampant up front.

Armson put his side in front as early as the 8th minute finishing from close range after good interplay with Matt Lowe.  After 21 minutes Ndlovu was fouled by Ioan Richards and Armson slotted home the penalty to extend the lead before Lowe fired over when well placed, Ndlovu shot high, Byrne was off target and Ndlovu again headed over as Gloucester reeled under the weight of attacking play.

There was no let-up in the second half, Armson’s header from a corner hitting the woodwork before helping himself to a third career hat-trick for Saints heading the simplest of chances at the far post set up by Ndlovu in the 69th minute.

“Scoring a hat-trick is a good feeling,” Armson said.  “I’ve been the beneficiary of Lee [Ndlovu’s] hard work today getting the penalty and putting one on my head I couldn’t really miss.  It was nice for me to get off the mark at Hereford and again today.  We wanted the win today after Saturday’s draw, taking 4 points over this weekend was important and sets us up nicely.”
