Master blaster Byrne sets Saints en route to first away win

A superbly struck goal on 20 minutes by Shane Byrne set Brackley on the path to a first away win of the season and three richly deserved points.  Goals from Thierry Audel and Jimmy Armson settled the result to move Saints into 7th place in the league table.

“It was a pleasing performance and obviously a good result,” Kevin Wilkin said.  “It’s a tough place to come and scoring three goals away from home is encouraging and we could have added to that tally in truth hitting the post late on.  The opening goal is a terrific finish by Shane and credit to Luke who made a good decision to turn down the cross and roll it in for Shane.  It is good to bounce back from a disappointing performance up at Gateshead.”

Set up by Fairlamb after good work on the left, Byrne hit his shot first time from 25 yards and saw it find the top corner in off the cross-bar to give Saints a spectacular lead before Audel scored his first goal for the club netting after Harriers failed to clear from a corner on 32 minutes.  The two goal lead was nothing more than the visitors’ play warranted but Kidderminster halved the deficit on the stroke of half-time with a first effort on goal as Brackley could not clear their lines, the ball falling for Correy Davidson who made no mistake.

The home side started the second period well but could not find the equaliser and Saints were soon in the ascendency again, Armson and Glenn Walker both going close before Armson scored his fifth goal in four games finishing tidily after Lee Ndlovu’s shot was blocked after 64 minutes.

Byrne’s shot found the post after excellent play by Matt Lowe and Jimmy Armson and it was Armson again late on whose shot was well saved by Cameron Gregory in the Harriers goal as Saints continued to press to increase their lead.
