Dons in charge at SJP

A strong MK Dons side were two goals ahead within 10 minutes at St James Park in front of over 1000 supporters on a balmy evening as Kevin Wilkin’s pre-season preparations ramped up.

Saints hit back with a headed goal by captain Gaz Dean from Shane Byrne’s corner but the League One side immediately restored their lead to go in 3-1 ahead at the break.

Saints brought on Dan Holman, new signing striker Tendai Daire, Luke Fairlamb and Carl Baker on the hour while The Dons swapped all ten outfield players but maintained their ascendency with Dylan Asonganyi and Sam Nombe adding to the score-line, Asonganyi’s finish the pick of the goals on the night bending a fierce shot into the bottom corner from range.

“It was a tough test tonight against a very strong League One team,” Kevin Wilkin said.  “This is exactly the sort of hard game we need at this stage of pre-season and there is important learning to take from the game.  It was encouraging to see so many supporters turn out this evening and create a good atmosphere.  We have another big game on Saturday when Banbury are the visitors.”
