After a first run out against National League Solihull Moors on Saturday, Saints entertain EFL One Burton Albion on Tuesday evening with a 7.45pm kick-off at St James Park.
Jimmy Floyd-Hasselbaink’s Burton side were 16th last season and are already well underway in pre-season, this will be their sixth game of eight leading up to the opening Saturday of the EFL season on 30 July. The Brewers have added ex-Barnsley striker Victor Adeboyejo to their ranks.
Kevin Wilkin was pleased with his side’s fitness and the start to the pre-season programme fully meriting the draw against Moors in an entertaining game on a sweltering afternoon.
“We’re under no illusion of where we need to be and will work really hard at that and push them on.” Wilkin said. “We lost one or two big players in the close season and that happened really quickly. We lost out to a couple of targets we had hoped to bring to the club and we have to be a little bit patient with one or two we are hoping to bring in still. But the current players are fit with only Jeff carrying a bit of an injury.”
