Walsall v Brackley Town u16

Brackley travelled up the M40 full of confidence after a great performance last time out. We were looking forward to playing on a other 3G surface again this week which was just behind the Walsall stadium. It was evident from the 1st whistle how Walsall were going to play today as everything went long & direct. Brackley were caught out a couple of times down the left flank early on & Walsall should of gone 1-0 up when their left winger was put through & to be honest should of scored as he chipped the keeper from outside the box only to bend it just wide. Brackley however tried to adjust defensivley but at least we were trying to play football on a superb surface.

We were enjoying the lions share of possession but not quite finishing off some lovely moves with Luca having the best chance for Brackley but waiting to get it back on his favoured foot cost vital seconds & chance gone. Walsall however continued to throw long & every free kick was sent long into the box. Brackley did struggle to clear their lines at times with Walsall causing us problems with their direct nature. Brackley were awarded a free kick just inside the Walsall half. Brackley played it short to change the angle, with Issac Locke switching play with a pin point ball to the back post which found Robbie Heath to head goalwards, his effort hit the bar with the keeper beaten, it however fell kindly for Brackley as Hayden Durrant was there to tap home from 6 yards to give us the lead 0-1. Brackley did get a 2nd shortly after through Lucas Northover only for the linesman to rule it out for offside. HT 0-1

Brackley coped much better 2nd half with Walsall still happy to launch everything long from any given opportunity as they had done in the 1st. Brackley still continued to play football & moved the ball a little quicker to open up the opposition. The game was there for the taking for Brackley but with the ref giving everything the other way you just felt Walsall might nick a goal with one of the bombs finding its target. Brackley did however seal victory with 5 mins remaining when Lucas Northover went on a little run of his own to slot home past the outstretched keeper. FT 2-0

Well done lads another great team performance you coped very well & deserved the 3 points. We are already looking forward to our league cup game next week!
