As promised we are letting everyone know how things are proceeding following the devastating fire early Thursday morning. Friday was the start of the rebuilding process.
It started early with a visit from the Loss Assessor who collected various facts for his report. This was followed by a visit from the forensic scientist whose initial investigations point to it being caused by an electrical item somewhere high up in the bar area. We were also advised that a Structural Engineer will be visiting on Tuesday to assess the state of the building.
In the meantime the new build has made great progress and now has all the external walls up and work has nearly finished on the internal walls. The builders have been fantastic and have really pushed on to get the project completed ahead of schedule and it is hoped to be ready for plastering by Thursday and painting to start the following Monday. Thank you Bark and Brook and the team for your help in pushing this forward so quickly.
On the playing front Kevin has been speaking to various potential players and hopes to be in a position early next week to be able to announce at least one if not two new signings.
The aim is to be ready for the start of our first friendly against Oxford United on 11 July. On that point we have been in contact with Milton Keynes, Northampton and Oxford and they have been extremely helpful in offers of support and getting the message out to their supporters to come down to the club to support their teams and by doing so that will also help us get over the initial difficulties we are facing. Also please don't forget the friendly against our local rivals Banbury United on Saturday 20 July when the proceeds are being donated to the Motor Neurone Disease Foundation at the request of our long time club coach Gordon Kille.
The messages of support keep flooding in and this has given us a tremendous boost and will spur us on in what are going to be potentially trying times ahead and to overcome the situation we find ourselves in. To this end we are proposing a series of voluntary working parties but these dates can only be given when we know the scale of the problems we face when the Insurers have given us a final assessment. Unfortunately not much notice can be given because of the circumstances so please keep watching these bulletins for the dates if you are willing to help.
