League Cup

Shrewsbury DC v Brackley Town u16

Brackley Town go through to the QF of the cup after a great game of football played by both sides. The tie ended 0-0 at FT with Brackley coming out on top winning 3-1 on penalties in the end. Both sides demonstrated some good football, however we were cancelling each other out with a very similar style of play. Both teams kept their shape & switched play to good effect but neither side could break the deadlock.

The 2nd half Shrewsbury came out quicker from the outset, we were now defending a little deeper but we held firm & defended with a real fighting spirit, grit & determination which was very pleasing to witness. Keelan Cronin did however put the ball in the back of the net for Brackley only for it to be ruled out for offside following a very quick & incisive counter attack midway through the second half. Shrewsbury continued to press & Brackley attacked them quick on the break made it an exciting 2nd half but unfortunately the deadlock couldnt be broken which sent us to penalties at the end of the game. The 5 players stepped up & organised themselves in order with 6-7-8 prepared to takeone if needed. Kelan McConnan gave us the lead from the spot but Shrewsbury levelled before Issac Locke made it 2-1. James Baker made a terrific save low to his right giving Brackley the edge after two. Archie Hamp smashed in Brackley's third with Shrewsbury needing to score to stay in touch. Shrewsbury's penalty taker hit the bar & rebounded off to give us a 2 goal cushion with two to go. 3-1

Alex Pestana needed to score to put us through but unfortunately his effort hit the inside of the bar & agonisingly spun off the line to keep us all waiting. Shrewsbury needed to score their penultimate penalty otherwise we were through.

To our delight it was hit hard & high & flashed off the bar to sail behind. Brackley win 3-1 on penalties & march into the quarter finals.

Jubilation from our boys who ran from the halfway line to smother our keeper to celebrate in style. Well done boys a really good team performance & a clean sheet to boot. We start 2020 unbeaten & another cup game to look forward too.
