Wednesday 7th May

The Board of Brackley Town Football Club are today delighted to announce that Phil Lines will be stepping in as Manager of first team affairs for the foreseeable future.

Saints New Manager - Phil Lines

Despite the numerous and some very highly rated applications for the vacancy it was felt that we needed a period of consolidation with someone we knew and who also knew us and how the club works.

This appointment will give us at least a couple of years where we know the on field activities are being taken care of and hopefully to continue the progress that has been made in the past.

It will also give us time to concentrate on progressing the off field activities and building up the foundations for the future which will allow us to progress up the pyramid with confidence.

There is a lot of activity going on off the field and the next few years will be an exciting and rewardarding time for all involved or for all those who wish to become involved in the club.

Saturday 19th April

Brackley Town have today released Manager David Oldfield from his contract. David has been offered a full time coaching position with Peterborough United, an opportunity that was too good to refuse.

We hope he enjoyed his short stay with us and whilst the news was a shock, we always knew that it might happen .

His ultimate aim was always to eventually return to league football.

We as a club are obviously sad to see him depart so soon, as his coaching skills and enthusiasm for the job were obvious to everyone and we were looking forward to next season with some excitement. We wish him all the best for the future, which we are sure will be successful and thank him for his professionalism.

David will stay with us until the end of the season and in the meantime we will now turn our attention to finding a replacement to take us forward with our development plans.

Sunday 4th November

A titanic battle at St James Park today saw an expectant crowd thrilled by a scintialting display of attacking football from both sides in the Supporters vs Staff match.

The staff pressurised the supporters goal early on but solid defending and fine 'keeping kept the scores level until mid-way through the first half when an unlucky deflection of Supporters Skipper Chris Gee ran loose in the area and was hammered home from close range.

A few tactical changes followed and the supporters responded with a Jonny Phillips goal, Phillips, the subject of much interest from the watching Director of Football took his chance well, though he had missed three sitters before that!!

Half time came with the scores level.

Supporters Manager Mo Sumner tinkered with his squad, to the extent that they tried to start the second half with 13 players on the pitch, eagle eyed linesman Stephen Toghill spotted this and alerted the referree!

The game developed into a midfield tussle. Smart interplay from the Staff team often carved the supporters defence apart (both of them!) but they stood firm. Up front for the Supporters Sean Gardener had a chance near the end, from the edge of the box his fierce drive just shaved the upright and the scores stayed level.

The dreaded shootout followed, the first 4 kicks from the staff were all put away whilst, alas, the supporters missed one and had one smartly saved by an athletic Brian Jones in goal.

So the staff win this time, we await the re-match with baited breath!!

Ollie Stanbridge

Boss Ashby was full of praise for both players ' Both are quality lads and have conducted themselves this season in a very professional manner.

Tony Fontanelle

It is one of the hardest things to do in football, to tell players their chances are limited and in light of the new players that have come to the club in the last couple of weeks this is probably the right time for them to move on'

The club would like to wish both players well in their futures and thank them for their efforts whilst at St James Park.

Another new face arrives - this time on loan

Brackley Town have signed striker Lee Tomlin from Rushden & Diamonds on loan.

Tomlin joined the Northants side in January 2005, following his release by Leicester City. In October 2005, he became Rushden & Diamonds youngest ever player when he came on as a substitute, and throughout the rest of the season he made several more substitute appearances, but his first start came in November 2005, in an FA Cup 1st round replay against Halifax Town.

Before the 2006/07 season, Tomlin attracted the attention of several big clubs, such as Liverpool and Chelsea, earning a trial with the first. During last season he made more starts and became more of a regular in the Rushden & Diamonds side. He scored his first goal for the club against Weymouth and then immediately followed this with another goal, this time against in the FA Cup 4th qualifying round. He scored a total of 5 goals during the season, playing as a forward and on both wings.

Rushden and Diamonds' Lee Tomlin

He has started pre-season for the 2007-08 season strongly, scoring against Nottingham Forest in pre season and providing good competition up front for Simeon Jackson and Michael Rankine. In all he has made 5 starts this term and 10 appearances as substitute.

Rushden completed the loan signing of Grays forward Craig McAllister yesterday and Saints boss Roger Ashby was quick to move in for the youngster.

Like other new signing Martin Reeves, Tomlin goes straight into the squad for the home game on Saturday against Hemel Hempstead.

Thursday 11th October

Ashby swoops to sign Reeves

Brackley Town have announced the signing of Martin Reeves, from Conference North side Hucknall Town

Martin Reeves

The 26 year old Birmingham born midfielder links up again with boss Roger Ashby who he was with previously at Nuneaton, before that with Leicester City, Hull City (on loan), Northampton Town and Aldershot. Whilst with Leicester he appeared in the Premiership 5 times (2001 – 02) and scored his first professional goal whilst on loan to Hull in 2003.

Joins Saints from Hucknall Town (Blue Square North) for whom he has started 6 times and made one subs. appearance in their league games this season.

Reeves was in Ashbys’ squad that reached the third qualifying Round of the FA Cup a couple of years ago and played as a substitute in the match at The Riverside against Middlesbrough.

Boss Roger Ashby was pleased with his new signing

'we have been looking for a midfield player for a while and Martin fits the bill, although he's still relatively young he has a lot of experience. He's well known to me from my time with him at Nuneaton and he wil add extra quality, something we need at a time with both Dave Savage and Elliot Sandy injured'

He goes straight into the squad for Saturdays table topping clash with Hemel Hempstead at St James' Park.

A request was made by Brackley Town to have an earlier kick off this coming Saturday against Hemel Hempstead, to allow both sets of supporters the opportunity to watch the England game directly after the match.

Although the BGB Football league were agreeable and officials at Hemel had no problem wih our request their manager declined it.

The game will be on the big screen in the bar on Saturday afternoon and we apologise for the inconvienience

Sunday 7th October

Roger Ashby's notes from Saturdays programme (edited)

'To win a local derby game is always a good thing, but the manner in which we applied ourselves in the second half of last weeks game, and kept going right to the end of the match was fantastic. The just reward was two late goals and memories that will live in our minds for a long time.

The support at the game was especially pleasing, with the new stand open to see over 700 people in the ground was superb. I know a lot of effort went into advertising the game locally and the club owes a big thank you to everyone who was involved in that. Obviously Banbury brought a lot of support with them, but even so, it looked like well over half the crowd was behind us which means getting on for 400 people cheering us on, that makes a huge difference to the players, lets hope for more of the same.

To see the scenes when Tom scored our second you’d have thought we’d have won the cup! There were a few nervy moments after that but we defended well and came out with a win. It also meant we currently top the league, though at this early stage the table means nothing it is a nice position to be in. There is also a race developing to be top goal-scorer, Elliot and Tom both on 6 goals at the moment.

This stage of the season is very important, the way we perform in the run of games we have up to Christmas will go a long way to determining our aspirations for the season, there are a lot of games in a short space of time, I think we have something like 15 games before the festive period, that’s a lot of points at stake.

It’s testament to one of the un-sung members of my team that we have the players in a position to play as often as they do. Ian Maskell works very hard, not just on match-days but on training nights as well. He is dedicated to the team and this club and we are very lucky to have him in our squad.

With the postponement of the Woodford game on Tuesday we have had a chance to re-charge our batteries. On the injury front Andy Williams has now fully recovered from his knock, he Robbie Beard and Ollie Stanbridge have played for Hook Norton this week to regain match sharpness, Steve Jackman too is now playing again but will need a few games out on loan to be match fit and in consideration for a first team start. Managers notes from Saturdays programme:

'Two weeks ago we entertained Staines Town in the FA Cup hoping that today we would be involved in the 2ns Qualifying Round of the competition, but football, as we all know, can be a surprising game and instead here we are hosting our near neighbours Banbury United. I’d like to welcome Kieren and his team and I’m looking forward to doing battle in a game where the form book and league positions (and just about everything else you can use to predict how a match will go) goes out of the window.

Last Saturday I once again got a great response from the players, bouncing back form the cup exit to win at Yate. After the replay at Staines, a game in which we played extremely well, the whole squad was tired, having gone through extra time and penalties – many arrived home into the early hours of the morning. After a light training session last Thursday we prepared for Yate and got the result we wanted – it may have been a bit scrappy but in football you have to do that sometimes. We took our opportunities as they came and we were very strong at the back, keeping a clean sheet is always important in such games.

Obviously the game today is important locally but also in relation to the season as a whole. We have built a good momentum and are looking to carry this on into the Autumn. We have been forced to re-shuffle the side throughout the season so far, with suspensions and injuries, but all the squad members have been supportive of each other and the club, I know they are all keen to play today putting me as a Manager in a great position.

Finally, i see the Junior sections have now started their campaigns, I wish them all well this season. I’d encourage you to take time to watch the other teams at this football club if you can. All the staff put in a tremendous amount of work to get these boys playing and who knows, you might just be watching a star of the future!

Enjoy the game today, get behind the players in the right way and hopefully we will all look back on the match as a great event and an advert for local football'

Managers Programme notes from 4th Sept. (edited)

Against a very good Chippenham side on Saturday, for the neutral I guess it was a good game of football. From our point of view, having got back to lead 2-1 we could have done without half time as we were creating chances and looking like going further ahead. We can learn from the game in that if we make mistakes in any area of the pitch we will get punished at this higher level. Concentration throughout the 90 minutes is key. On a positive note we got a couple of goals and could have scored more.

We knew at some point a defeat would happen, we have no devine right to win football games. Tonight is another challenge against a massive club, the favourites to win the title this season. It is great to attract such clubs to St James’ Park and it makes you realise the level of football we are competing at now.

Kings Lynn have played all their games so far away from home, and that is not easy especially bearing in mind the travelling they have to do from their Norfolk base. You only have to see the current league table to realise they will be a threat for the title. We must work hard to get a result. I have told the players not to get there heads down, it is how we react to Saturdays defeat tonight and at Gloucester on Saturday that is important and I’ll be looking at that tonight. The players that came in to the side on Saturday earned the right to be there and have a chance as individuals within a team to retain their place.

It was nice to see over 300 spectators here on Saturday and the support is very much appreciated by me and the players. It is important that we continue to improve the attendances. The more people that come, the more we can invest in facilities and the team as the season progresses.

Sunday 2nd September

Brackley Town Under 10's, managed by Robin Walker, won the Brackley Athletic Tournament (for their age group) earlier today, this followed two friendly wins on Saturday.

Saturday 1st September

The crowd today of 302 was very encouraging for the club, especially bearing in mind the Brackley Athletic tournament that was being played over the weekend.

Chippenham had a fair number of fans but even so it is very pleasing to see so many Brackley people taking an interest, a big thankyou to everyone who came for your support.

Managers programme notes - Chippenham Town (abbreviated)

It is still early days and there is a long way to go in the season but I am extremely satisfied with the way the players have adjusted to my style of management and responded to what has been required of them.

Over the course of the season we are going to be tested as a team, no more so than in the next two matches, Chippenham today, perform consistently well and are usually placed towards the top of the league, and pre-season title favourites Kings Lynn next Tuesday. Hopefully we can come through these two games with our unbeaten record still intact.

What has also been pleasing is the support the team has had on its’ travels. We have all been really pleased in the way the supporters have got behind the team and I would urge this to continue and make as much noise as possible, including here at St James’ Park.

On the playing front Les Hines has decided to leave Brackley to link up with last weeks’ opponents Bromsgrove Rovers. Although only with me a short time I am aware of the great job he did under Phil Lines’ stewardship during the Championship winning side last season. He needed to play full-time so it was obviously in his interests to move on, I trust you will all join me in wishing him well in the future.

Finally, I hope you all enjoy the game today and I very much look forward to seeing you on Tuesday when we host Kings Lynn. I would encourage you to bring along friends and neighbours to this and the forthcoming home games. Support means so much to the players and it is in all our interests to raise the profile of the club within Brackley and the surrounding area. That, as management, players and especially supporters is something we can all help with.
